Heartburn
Heartburn or what is known as acidity (acid stomach) is one of the most common complications in Ramadan that usually occurs after eating, lying down or bending over.
Even though in Ramadan and in spite of fasting the problem may worsen and show. Especially after Iftar and in the evening. And that's a natural result due to fullness and satiety or other factors
Heartburn treatment and prevention during fasting in Ramadan:
- Controlling a heart burn can be done by eating food moderately and avoiding satiety
- Dividing the meals to 4 or 5 meals per day between Maghrib prayer and fajr prayer, and these meals include; iftar meal, two snacks, suhoor meal.
- Eating iftar meal gradually and slowly starting with dates and water then soups and appetizers then the main course.
- Eat your food slowly and make sure it’s well digested.
- Avoid high-lipid food and spicy food.
- Reduce the intake of caffeinated food like; coffee and chocolate.
- Avoid sleeping for at least 3 hours after a meal.
- Do a light exercises like walking after the iftar meal to help digest the food.
- Don’t forget to drink water no less than 2-3 liters per day
- Raise the headboard of your bed for almost 20 cm by putting a piece of wood under it, and it’s not advised to use additional cushions and pillows to do that. And the reason for that is to avoid increased pressure on the stomach.
(These tips are for pregnant women also, because this problem increases with pregnancy).
